We had a busy week in Year 1 thinking about our mental health. We did activities that helped us understand the importance of listening to each other’s voices. We played Chinese whispers and made our own telephones.
We shared the things that are important to us and discussed and wrote about our favourite things and this helped us to understand that we all think differently and that’s ok. We even learnt how to sign the word ‘Favourite’!
We also thought and wrote about what kindness is. We wrote about things that we could do or say that are kind.
This week, in our toys topic we will be learning about changes in toys over time due to developments in materials, health and safety and technology.
In Maths, we will be learning the place value of numbers within 20. We will be learning how to use number lines to 20, estimating numbers within 20 and finding 1 more and 1 less.

In Science this week, we will be naming parts of the body.
For homework this week there is work on practising our understanding of representations of numbers within 20.

In Maths, we will be learning the place value of numbers within 20. We will learn about tens and ones and look at how to make different numbers within 20 using practical equipment like bead strings, numicon, tens frames and diennes.
Don’t forget to go on Numbots for extra maths challenges. We held a presentation ceremony this week and gave out certificates to the children who had completed each level. The children were really excited by this.

In Science this week, we will be starting a new topic ‘Who am I?’ and we will start by learning about the human skeleton.

In Science this week, we will be looking at seasonal changes and the changes between Autumn and Winter. We will learn how this effects the weather, what we wear and the amount of day light hours.

This week, we will be starting our new discovery topic on Toys. As many of the children will have received new toys for Christmas we will start by sharing our favourite toy with the class and describing it.
Please can your child bring in toy on Wednesday 10th to share, draw and write about.
In Maths, we will be completing our subtraction unit and then moving on to learning about 3-D shapes.
In phonics, we will be starting in our new phonics groups. We are making amazing progress. If your child hasn’t moved groups this time it may be because they need to consolidate some sounds they have been taught. In our extended writing, we will be writing a recount about our Christmas holidays by using time conjunctions and learning how to extend our sentences by using the conjunction ‘and’. We will be learning how to add a sentence to describe how we felt about something we did in the holidays.

On fridays, we will be visiting the Library so your child will be issued with a new book this week.
This week will be our count down to Christmas. The children will have lots of fun doing a variety of different Christmas activities to help get us in the mood.
We will have our Nativity performance on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, so make sure you have ordered your tickets. Please remember if taking photos and videos these should be kept for private viewing and not shared across social media if they contain other children. We have taken a photo of all of the children in their costumes and will send these home with the children. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.
On Wednesday we will be having our whole school party day. The children can come into school in their party wear or in their Christmas jumper. Please make sure children are dressed warmly and wearing sensible footwear as they will still be outside at lunchtime and throughout the day. Can you send your child in on that day with a small paper plate (named) of party food for them to consume in the afternoon. The children will have had their lunch as normal so do not need sandwiches. Just a few treats to enjoy such as fruit, a cupcake and some crisps.
Thank you for all your support this term. The children have had an excellent start to their Reception year and are showing great progress in all areas of the curriculum. They are doing particularly well with their phonics. Please keep practising the letter sounds and making simple words for them to read. There will only be online work set this week as we need to collect in all of the books to sort for new groups in the new year.
It was a wonderful experience for pupils, parents and carers from year three to year six to hold Coundon’s Christmas Carol Concert at Coventry Cathedral. The choir were a credit to the school singing beautifully at the front, with a beautiful duet from Ruby and Eva – all brought together with pupil’s readings and a tableau of the first Christmas.
Year 5 have completed their D and T projects on Bridges – here are the final designs and creations for Dr R. Nile who set us the task. We even tested them over a tray of water – there were some casualties when tested with heavy weights.
We will be making calendars and Christmas cards this week.
On Monday at 6.00pm we will be performing our Nativity . Please bring your child to school at 5.30pm to get changed.
On Tuesday we will be making porridge and creating our healthy topping. In the afternoon at 2.00pm we will be performing our Nativity.
On Wednesday it is party day. Please send your child to school in party clothes or something festive. Please also provide a few snacks on a plate for them to enjoy.
On Thursday it is the school disco after school. Please pick your child up at the normal time and return them to school at 4.00pm for the disco.
On Friday it is our ‘Polar Express’ day where the children can come to school in their pyjamas and enjoy toast, hot chocolate and watch the Polar Express. Please bring a cup!
After the holidays we will be doing outside PE so please ensure your chid has an outdoor PE kit to wear on Thursdays.
