On Thursday 3rd April, 10 children from Year 2 took part in a gymnastics competition vs other schools in Coventry. They have been working very hard at learning a floor and vault routine over the past few weeks with Mr Bordley in their PE Lessons as well as putting in extra practise with Mr B, Miss Griffiths and Miss Ferris! The children presented these routines in front of a judge at Tribe Cheer and Fitness and all performed amazingly! They were also supportive of others and very well-behaved – real role models for our school! Well done to all children.
They also managed to secure second place, we are so proud of them.
This week we have been designing, making and evaluating our own healthy pizzas for Science and Design and Technology! We have been investigating the question: can food be healthy and attractive to children?
We have learnt how to chop vegetables, grate cheese and spread puree. Most of us loved our pizzas, so the answer to our question was YES! We had great fun learning 🙂
Today Year 2 visited the Singh Sabha Gurdwara. We had great fun learning all about Sikhism and how Sikhs pray. Some of our children also shared their own knowledge of their religion – Sonjo even played the drums in front of us all!
Many of us had a delicious lunch and snacks too! We would like to thank the volunteers at the Gurdwara for their hospitality. All the children were role models and were very respectful.
This week Year 2 went on a welly walk to Coundon Wedge to look for signs of autumn. We saw lots of beautiful leaves that had fallen from the trees, bare branches, a rushing river and mushrooms growing on logs, among many other things. We had a great time and were role models for our school when walking to and from the wedge.

Today Year 2 made some fruit kebabs in our Science lessons. We have been learning all about how to stay healthy, including healthy diets. We loved the delicious fruit kebabs, and it was great fun making them!
Year 2 had an amazing day at Cadbury’s World where we learnt about how chocolate was made . We then had a very exciting tour of the exhibition. Our favourite activities included writing with chocolate, tempering chocolate and eating chocolate! The Cadbury’s bean car ride was also super exciting and the 4D cinema made us think we were on a roller coaster! Thank you to all of Year 2 for displaying brilliant behaviour – we are so proud of you all!
This week, Year 2 enjoyed riding our bikes and scooters for Wheels Day! We were experimenting to see what the effect of exercise is on our bodies. We thought carefully about our heart rates, muscles, breathing and pulse. It was great fun!
In the run up to the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic games, 62 Coventry primary, secondary and special educational needs schools will be participating in a torch relay, the Flame of Friendship, leaving Coventry Cathedral on Thursday 22nd February and finishing on the University of Warwick campus on Monday 8th July. https://warwick.ac.uk/wie/flame_of_friendship/
The torch is bespoke to this event, designed especially for this event, designed as part of a competition in which more than 2000 Coventry pupils took part. The winning design was submitted by a pupil from Finham Park School and has subsequently been redeveloped at WMG, on the University of Warwick campus.
On Wednesday 12th June, it was Coundon Primary’s turn to receive the Flame of Friendship. Sherbourne Fields travelled to our school to deliver it to us. They were greeted by the whole of Coundon during a warm and welcoming lap of the school grounds, where we clapped, cheered and waved scarves, flags or banners for them. The children really enjoyed themselves.
Then on Thursday 13th June, we had the honour of delivering the Flame of Friendship onto Allesley Primary School. The children that took place in the delivery of the torch showed great pride in being chosen and were great representatives for our school. A special thanks needs to go to Miss Mower and Miss Ferris, for agreeing to walk with them all the way!
This week Year 2 have been learning all about Romania. We have learnt many facts about the country. We also learnt some traditional songs and dances.
We designed and painted some wooden spoons, replicating Romanian folk art and crafts. We enjoyed tasting lots of different types of Romanian food such as Sarmale (cabbage rolls) and various pastries and other snacks. We also wrote a postcard, imagining we had been to Romania for our holidays. It was great fun learning how to say some basic Romanian phrases and how to count to 10. What a great week ????
Year 2 would also like to thank a parent from Year 3 (Alessia’s mum) who cooked the cabbage rolls for us! They were super tasty, and we really appreciate the experience of tasting homemade Romanian food. Thank you!
